Fantastic event shows spirit of caring local community

Thousands visited the Memorial Hall on Saturday 14 May to take part in Dereham Day. Attractions for all the family included – a whole host of performances during the day in the Main hall. The day was kicked off with an opening speech from local MP George Freeman, who said that he thinks Dereham leads the way in showing care and concern for others.

The programme included local choir Rockavox, the Dereham Band, the Galaxy Twirlers, and demonstrations of everything from flower arranging to modern jive classes.

The audience moved freely between the main hall and the gallery and the Fleece Meadow where around 60 local groups were demonstrating what they do, encompassing a huge range of activities ranging from bee-keeping to a petting zoo. There are hundreds of photos at

Everyone was happy to be out in the sunshine and meeting with friends and family and finding out more about our community and the huge range of community groups that we benefit from.

We particularly wish to thank the organisers, the Friends of Dereham memorial Hall and especially Chairman Tim Cara – the master-mind behind this very successful event.
