Special recognition Award for Dereham Wayfinding team

Councillor Roy Brame, the former Chairman of Breckland Council, presented a Special Recognition Award on 13th July to two Dereham residents who had designed and produced the series of wayfinding signs in town. Together with his wife Karen, he described how they had been amazed how communities had come together to support each other during the pandemic – and that was what had led him to suggest the award for individuals who had made a special mark in their community.

He spoke about the great effort that had been put in, over a sustained period of time, to research, write and design the new signs which he said are an asset in the town and will be a legacy for many people to enjoy for years to come.

Sue Walker, receiving her certificate, said that it had been an honour and a joy to be able to give something back to the town that she has lived in for many years. She said it is marvellous to be able to bring some of Dereham’s rich history into the light of day for people to enjoy.

Carolyn Coleman, who project-managed the creation and installation of the new signs thanked all those who had been involved and especially commended the design work by Sue Walker who is both a talented artist and a very knowledgeable local historian. She also thanked Dereham Heritage Trust and the members of the aboutDereham Partnership whose steadfast support had helped to keep the project going under difficult circumstances of lockdowns.
