Thank volunteers
May 20, 2023Making all the difference in the world
The aboutDereham Partnership marks Volunteers’ Week, 1st-7th June 2023 by encouraging us to Celebrate what our volunteers do for our community and also to Inspire others to get involved.
As we approach the 39th year of Volunteers’ Week (1st-7th June) we should celebrate the contribution made by thousands of volunteers in communities across the UK. It’s all about recognising those priceless, wonderful, selfless people who sacrifice their time, money, or energy, to serve their fellow citizens.
The contribution that volunteers make in their local communities is often unseen and visible only to those that benefit from their work, whether that be coaching youngsters in a sport or hobby, cleaning up the local area, preserving our heritage or teaching others vital skills. So many activities and events would not take place and our town would be a gloomier place without the time given by so many good people.
Let’s take the time during Volunteers’ Week to celebrate their efforts for what they contribute to our local communities. We estimate that in Dereham alone there are probably over a thousand people who are contributing to the life of the town in this way. If you’d like to thank volunteers who contribute to your group, organisation or community, why not recognise them with a special Certificate and thank them for making a difference. As well as thanking those who already volunteer, it’s also important to continue to encourage others to get involved too. Volunteering can provide a healthy boost to your self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. You’re doing good for others and the community, which provides a natural sense of accomplishment and allows you to connect to your community and make it a better place.
