Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

November 28, 2021

Let’s get together to plan events in Dereham!

Loads of people will hope to plan events to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022. Already there are celebrations planned nationally and grants for community organisations to organise events in their locality.

Join the meeting on 6 December

Let us make a good start by meeting on 6th December, on Zoom, at 7pm. By working together we can avoid clashes and competition for slots or resources! Email hello@ to get the Zoom link for the meeting. If you cannot make the meeting for any reason, email me with your contact details.

Extra bank holiday

Looking at what is already planned, it seems there will be scores of events happening throughout 2022 and not just on the Jubilee weekend. BTW, we will all get extra bank holidays at the Jubilee weekend: there will be an extended bank holiday, from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June.

Already planned are Trooping of the Colour, to mark the Queen’s official birthday; the lighting of Platinum Jubilee Beacons; street parties (The Big Lunch) and the Queen’s Platinum Party at the Palace. You can read more about national events here: https://www.royal.uk/platinum-jubilee-central-weekend

Plant a tree – or several

Another initiative and one which has already started is the Queen’s Green Canopy where people are invited to plant a tree to mark the Jubilee, between October 2021 and March 2022. You can add your tree to an official map, here: https://queensgreencanopy.org/map-education-hub/qgc-map/#/

Schools and community groups can get free trees from the Woodland Trust, here: https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/plant-trees/schools-and-communities/
