Dereham Day proves blooming marvellous

It wasn’t just the wonderful weather that helped Dereham Day 2024 be such a success; it was the hours put in by the organisers, stewards and helpers to create the opportunity for over 140 clubs and organisations to reach over 7,000 visitors from around the County.  It gets bigger and better every year and is a fantastic event to have on the town’s calendar. A big thank you to the organisers!!

Dereham & District Flower Club was one of the clubs with a stand and it was a successful day for us.  We shared our experience of flower arranging with visitors and potential new members creating demonstrations throughout the day, did some fund-raising for East Anglian Children’s Hospice (EACH) and covered our costs of the flowers we used by successfully selling them off at the end of the day.

We had lots of enquiries about the Club on the day, not just for our Club but others in the County with information being passed on through our contacts.  We had flyers advertising a flower festival, in August, and future fund-raising events and one to encourage interest in the Club with a free Club night.  It proved very beneficial and we’ve had a couple of follow-up phone calls from new members.

It’s important for all clubs and organisations to make the effort to reach out to new members. Like others, it’s been hard to bring new members on board after the pandemic lockdowns.  People seem to have got used to being at home and found it hard to restart normal life and hobbies again afterwards. But we’re persevering with our advertising on social media and posters in and around the town.  We’ll definitely be a regular feature at future Dereham Days.
