Dereham Blues Festival is an annual, community-organised celebration of blues music with more than 50 bands playing over 200 live gigs at venues across the town. In 2022, more than 2000 music lovers enjoyed live blues music in more than a dozen venues in Dereham. See the 2022 review at

Planning for the 2023 blues festival is already under way – it will open on 5th July with the headline act performing at the Dereham memorial Hall – the only ticketed show. Tickets sell out soon after they are released – usually in February.

Every other festival performance is free-entry, hosted in pubs, clubs and family-friendly town venues, many with gardens, lots have play areas for children. On Saturday and Sunday, the music is almost non-stop from lunchtime until late. A new feature in 2022 was all-day performances by buskers in the Ellenor Fenn Garden, bringing a range of blues musicians to a new audience.

It has been said that blues is about life and living , the sad and the funny, the important and the trivial things of just being human. Musically, it can range from quiet acoustic sessions with one or two voices, through to a full band with wailing harmonicas and a heavier electric sound.
