Dereham’s Peace Day Centenary
Hosted by Dereham Carnival
20 Jul at 09:00 to 20 Jul 17:00
Event Location
Dereham, UK

Our Peace Day celebrations will have something for all ages with Entertainment, Games, Competitions and Races plus puppet shows and other entertainment for the little ones. Medals and cups will be awarded for all races and competitions.

We will also be welcoming many visitors from 1919 who will be with us for the whole day, they are more than happy to chat to you and share their thoughts on 2019 and their memories of 1919. You can find out how different life was for the people of Dereham 100 years ago.

Dereham Town Band will be in the Market place from 9.00am and there will be a brief church service at 10.00am followed by a muffled peel of bells. Also, at 9.00am a steam train will arrive at the Railway Station bringing troops home from the war, this train will be met by our 1919 visitors.

After lunch the activities move to the Recreation Ground, exactly as they did in 1919. There will also be an exhibition with serious and fun facts about Dereham 100 years ago, this will move on to the Dereham Library for two weeks after our event.

250 Retired Dereham residents will be entitled to a free afternoon tea and tickets for this will be available shortly. We will also provide squash and cake for the under 10’s for free, there will be a small charge for everyone else. The free meals were part of the original celebrations, sadly we can't provide the 4,500 meals they did!
